Welcome Message from Mr De Freitas, 26 June
It would usually be around this time that we would be welcoming our new entrants to their first play afternoon at Hawes Down Primary School. These afternoons are a highlight for myself and Mrs. Whiteman, as it is a time full of excitement, curiosity and intrepidation - and that is just the parents! Unfortunately, due to the current climate, these sessions can’t happen right now, but, all being well, we hope to welcome our new entrants for their play mornings in September.
Instead, for the time being, I would like to welcome our new entrants and families to our Hawes Down community by including them in our weekly letters so that they can see what life here is like. We have created your own dedicated part of the school website not only for you to access information, but also to provide your child with weekly stories being read by the EYFS staff. We hope that they can get to know some familiar faces before they start in September. So, a virtual welcome to all of you, from myself and Mrs. Whiteman, and we look forward to welcoming you in person in September.
Getting Ready for School
Many of you may be wondering how you can help your child be ready for school, especially due to them missing so much preschool due to the current climate. Please have a look at the guidance below which will give you a good idea of how you can help your child at home and what you can practise over the summer holidays. At Hawes Down ,we are more concerned about your child being independent and able to dress themselves, feed themselves and use the toilet than being able to read and write as this is what we will address as soon as they start.
